Will a Electric Guitar Play Well Without a Cord and All That?
Is a electric guitar able to play without a cord and amp and all that other stuff? I may be planning on getting one. I am wondering if I will be able to carry it around with me outside, and play it every where I go, without a amp and all.

Hi, Ben! Yes, you will be able to hear the guitar, but probably not well enough to amaze your growing audience or jam with another player! Nothing wrong with being able to practice chords and finger exercises without any amplification, but why not consider a headphone amplifier? Check out the Vox amPlug ( http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Vox-Amplug-Classic-Rock-Headphone-Amp?sku=481677 ), the C Tech Pocket Rockit ( http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/C-Tech-Pocket-Rock-It-S1-Standard-Guitar-Headphone-Amp?sku=151081 ), and the Waves iGTR Modeling ( http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Waves-iGTR-Headphone-Amp?sku=482265 ) for some examples. Best regards, Dana
start on a acustic youll learn more and get your fingres more"expirienced"
it’ll sound more like an acoustic guitar.
The answer is no, I don’t know why anyone would say otherwise. You’ll hear something but the notes will be too faint for anyone to call it "music." And good luck hammering or pulling off. Get an amp my friend.
You certainly can play it unplugged! Many famous players play unplugged for most of their /practice/ time. The important thing is that it will not be very loud at all; you’ll be able to hear it well enough to practice in a quite place, but thats about it. You should try going to a guitar store and playing an electric unplugged, just to get an idea of how loud it will be.
If you want to be loud enough that people can hear it without standing right next to you, and still want to carry it around, I would recommend getting an acoustic.
Good luck!
if you are going to be traveling around playing your guitar, get an acoustic. if you are going to be playing it inside, in your room, basement or garage, get an electric. an electric will not be loud or sound good at all without an amp. Or what you can do it get a rechargable amp. I have one made by fender, crate makes one too… they are real mini amps that you plug in and they have a huge rechargable battery in them. Mine I only used for teaching lessons and went weeks without recharging it. Those are my suggestions.
I pretty much never use an amp when practicing scales or chord progressions, so yes you can hear it enough to do that. It will not be loud enough acoustically to play songs for your friends etc. The type of guitar makes a big difference also. My Telecaster with Alder body is much louder acoustically than some of my other guitars. Just so you’ll know, you can get little battery powered amps that you can carry anywhere with you. Check out some of these. MF doesn’t sell it but he Orange Micro Crush is one of the best sounding mini amps I’ve ever played, also has a built in tuner. If you buy an electric guitar you’ll need a tuner anyway, so just buy a mini amp with built in tuner instead and you’re good to go.

The only electric you’ll be able to hear well without an amp is a bunker. Try their treker classic ’57. They are amazing, it’s a patented tension free neck, they’ve run a 3/8 inch steel bar through the neck and the string tension is transfered through it rather than the neck. It results in better tone, easier playing, easier tuning, incredible sustain, and a side effect is the guitar has quite a loud sound with no amp at all due to the mass of the bar.
