Whats the Best Electric Guitar for Me?
Right now I use a Fender Squier Strat, but I would like something a little better. I am in guitar level grade 3 and I usually play bluesy, rock, and reggae songs. I'm looking for it to be 500$ and under.
Any help is appreciated ![]()
Thanks!

Hello there,
What model of Squier Strat do you have. There is a lot of difference between the bottom and the top of the line Squier Strats. Also, what amp and speakers do you have?
For instance, if you have a Squier Strat from the SE beginner pack or a Bullet, then about any other Squier is a big upgrade. If you have a Squier Affinity that is about the middle of the line, but quality-wise it is not half way. So upper end Squier Strats are a big upgrade over the Affinity. If you have one of the upper end Squier Strats, there is not much room for improvement until you get a Fender Standard. The quality of the upper end Squier Strats and the lower end Fender Strats are pretty close.
The Squier Classic Vibe is an excellent Strat. It has Alinco magnets in its pickups like the Fender American pickups. Those pickups have a classic Fender US tone. They may be even closer in tone to the Fender American than the Fender Standard MIM pickups (because those have ceramic magnets).
If you will consider buying a used guitar, you can make a very big step up in quality. A used Fender Standard Stratocaster (MIM) is going to sell for about 1/2 the new price. That puts the used Fender MIM Strat around $300. At that price, it is a real bargain. The MIM Strat is the most commonly owned of the Fender Strat line. It is a very good guitar.
Why I asked about your amp is that most new players under estimate the importance of the amp and speakers in how they will sound. They worry about getting a really good guitar and then play it through some small practice amp (10 to 25 watts). Then they are disappointed in how it sounds. You only sound as good as your speakers no matter what guitar you have. So if you have a small practice amp, upgrading your amp may improve your sound more than upgrading your guitar. If you have been playing your Squier Strat through a small practice amp, you will be surprised how good it can sound when played through a good amp.

Strata-caster …
alright first of all theirs not too many "nice" guitars that are out their that are under 500 bucks, but if i were you i would upgrade from a squier to a telecaster, or a strat. if you are lucky you can find a tele or a strat on kijiji or ebay for around 500 buck, probally a little over though
hope this helped
