Whats the Best Book or Pragram to Learn EVERYTHING About Playing Electric Guitar.?

I really want to play electric guitar...................but I'm a musical retard. I have a book on how to learn electric guitar but I know nothing about octaves, scales, notes etc. I got an electric guitar for christmas in 2007 but I don't know how to tune or play it. Is there any program or book that teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know to play electric guitar.

Hey, man. I have been playing for nine years and have been in a lot of bands, and in my opinion tabs are not good at all if you want to learn guitar. My advise would be to check out Guitar for Dummies from the library and see if you like it. I think this is one of the most comprehensive guitar books available, and it comes with a cd, which is very helpful.

Books are good, but lessons are better. If you can take lessons from a jazz guitarist, you will be able to play almost anything after about two years. The reason that it is imporant to take from a jazz guy is that he will teach you how to make your own music and how to improvise, rather than just covering other people’s songs. I don’t really enjoy that much jazz guitar music, but I wouldn’t trade my jazz background for anything.

    practice makes perfect!

I’m really not sure about books, programs or sites. But I can tell you that you will never learn EVERYTHING about guitar from one source. Check out http://www.freeguitarvideos.com or http://www.freelicks.net

My advice is once you start getting the idea of the beast. Once you can tune it and play a few chords; find other musicians.

Almost every city or town has jam nights somewhere, or there will be somewhere where old musicians hang out. Find them.

Find the guys with the grey hair and your on your way to the top! I know it sounds goofy, but the best way to learn is from the guys who have been playing music since you’ve been born.

You don’t necessarily have to learn all about octavs and scales right off the top. You need to train your ear. Once you know how to tune your guitar and have watched a few video lessons from those sites; go to some sites like http://www.ultimate-guitar.com or http://www.guitaretab.com and find TABS.

TABS are like music for the musically retarded, they don’t tell you chords all the time, they tell you where to put you fingers (what strings and what frets). Play along to some easy songs like "Smoke on the water" (Deep Purple) and "Come as you are" (Nirvana). You’ll get the hang of it.

Music is something has to come from the heart, sometimes it’s not easy (most times) but you’ll feel great in the end when it all works out!

well i suggest getting a program called guitar pro it has tabs and notation aka notes. thats good for learing songs. it cost bout 60 dollars but trust me its worth it. then go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ look up the songs you want to play then download the guitar pro versions of those songs, and if you cant find what your looking for there go to http://www.911tabs.com they have alot of tabs.

next get a music theory book at your local music store these will teach you everything else, such as octaves, scales, notes, chords, and anything related to music. you can probably get one for bout 10 bucks.

after you learn all that or if that doesnt help at all take private lessons but guitar pro and that music thoery book should explain every thing.

oh and at your local music store ask for a book that explains tablature and chord charts. those are very important.

i suggest you go to http://www.justinguitar.com – a site that has everything that you need to know about guitars. or buy the book "The Complete Billboard Illustrated Guitar Handbook" which also does the same thing.

Well if you’re new i suggest you could start by learning the chords and chord progression. once you get it. play playing some rhythm songs, and try to get used to it. After learning rhythm guitar try to switch to lead guitaring. Which can be done by learning to improvise solos. try to learn the scales so that you could learn to improvise. and lastly practice. it’s the only way to improve
