What Type of Electric Guitar Might Fit This Description?

I'm a medium-level guitar player, 19 years old, looking to get an electric guitar. I would like it to be electric but also have somewhat of a soft and smooth sound, like acoustic but I don't want an electric acoustic. I'd look for it to be in the mid to lower price range. Any suggestions?? (If I have made any sense.) Thanks for any help!
Would an Epiphone (possibly SG?) fit this description?

An SG is a solid body – what you are describing sounds more like a "Semi-Hollow" body. Try the Epiphone Dot Archtop ($400) or if you have the $$$ try the new Gibson ES339. The Ibanez Artcore series are good too.

What I tell all my students is to go to a reputable guitar store….I love the Guitar Center….and plan to spend hours in there, play every guitar that’s in your budget…your the one who is going to have to make the decision as to what guitar to buy…it has to please your hands, fingers, and have a sound that you think is great…also have an action that is suited to you…I really don’t like to tell people what kind of guitar to buy because not everyone likes the same sound…..they have so many great brands on the market today that it’s very hard to pick one…..I know the last time that I went I bought two !!!!
Fenders, Gibsons, Les Paul’s, Martin’s, Taylors, and Yamaha’s etc, I’m sure that you know, are all great sounding guitars for beginners, but you can find a lemon in any brand….So take your time, and remember that you can bring a guitar home and play it for 30 days….if you decide that you don’t like it you can take it back !!!!!!!!!
