What Songs Should I Listen to Decide Whether to Learn Electric or Bass Guitar?
Just starting out, wondering what is the difference? When I learned classical guitar, I enjoyed playing songs on the deeper sounding strings. Is bass right for me?
the questions is whether to learn
electric guitar
OR
bass guitar
not whether or not i should learn how to play rock music via guitar
thanks for all of your advice! but-
okay - i want to be able to play power chords from heavy metal like the ones in "enter sandman". is that a bass or electric guitar?

It could be that the deeper strings offered the timbre you were craving in the first place. Those are closer to the human voice, anyway. A decent classical guitar will do that. The quintessential power chord is done with the electric (six-stringed) guitar, period. The bass just underlies and certainly accentuates the chord(s), but I think what you’re hearing and trying to describe is an electric six playing through an overdriven amplifier. Your best bet on singling out what it is that you’ve got in mind is to go early to a local club, bar, etc. where live music is playing and listen to the musicians warming up. If you can, ask the guitarist and bass player to hit a brash and nasty power chord for you. You will have your answer, trust me.
#1 Stairway to Heaven.. there is a reason why it is #1….
bass is a very different beast. good bass playing requires really good timing and players like Stu hamm have brought some innovation to the instrument however, it could also be seen as more basic hence the word bass.and going from classical guitar to bass would be like going from the big box of crayons to a single piece of chalk, and personally i like busting out a melody every now and then. also most bass players learn guitar too
Here’s the simple way I like to put it: if you’re better at rhythm go with the bass but if you’re better with lead parts then go with the regular guitar.
With Or Without You by U2 has a great bass line
Essentially they are the same thing. The bottom string on a guitar is the top string on the bass. You said you play classical guitar so Im assuming you already have a guitar, then go get a bass
Learn both…………….I’ve been playing both for the last 30 years or so. It all depends on my mood. Some days I prefer acoustic guitar, others I prefer electric guitar, and other days, I play my bass. I like the variety all the instruments give me
if you can play the guitar you can play bass theres not much difference just try both and see which one you like best
