What Kind of Electric Guitar Should I Buy?

I have a budget of 0-200, and want a reliable guitar that is good for beginners but not at the expense of intermediate features. I want to know what brands or types I should get, and also whether I should go for a bundle with an amp. This will be my first electric guitar. Help?

Brand does not matter. However, usually, the costlier it is, the better its quality. Just look for the guitar that looks and feels good for you and sounds good with what you would like to play. If you find a sale with an amp bundle, then go for it if you like the guitar and the amp that comes with it.

Even at $200, you’re unlikely to find anything above a beginner’s guitar. My concern is that if you get a super cheapo guitar, you’ll get frustrated with it more quickly because it doesn’t play as well or sound as nice.

Fender makes some decent starter guitars under their Squier name, so I’d say look for one of those. Save up another $100 after and get a small amp to go with it. If you spend $200 on a combo of amp and guitar, neither one is likely to be any good.

There are three main brands that sell decent beginner guitars, Squier, Ibanez, and Epiphone. I would suggest an Epiphone special 2 pack because it is a nicely built guitar, and comes with everything you need to get started.

Squier also makes a pretty decent beginner guitar, <http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-SE-Special-Strat-Value-Pack?sku=513287#used>

I have played both of these, and i honestly think that the epiphone is a better deal due to the fact that it seems to be more solid than the squire, and has alot of room for upgrades (new pickups). Actually there really isn’t a contest, just get the epiphone and have fun. the squire will probably come with problems.

If you are looking for a good performance from the equipment, then don’t go with a value pack. I would either go with a Squier by Fender Bullet Series Stratocaster. It is a real Stratocaster, just not as expensive as the Squier Affinity series. This is $120. For a good beginner amplifier I would get a Squier or Fender 10 watt or 15 watt amp. It’s good for learning, and not overwhelmingly loud. When you advance in your playing you can upgrade.

For a good but inexpensive electric guitar, I recommend the Samick brand. There are Korean-made and good quality, and there are models within your price range. You need a decent first guitar, otherwise you may be disappointed and give up. Also, it’s a good idea to start with an electric and not an acoustic – they are easier to play!

Everyone will have their opinions. To me the Squire Standard Strat at $229 is the best deal going. Do not get the Affinity or Bullet Squire, but the regular Squire Standard Strat.

I think you should really consider buying used guitars because they go for much cheaper. The best new guitar you would be able to get with that much cash is a Squier Stratocaster and they are completely garbage in my opinion. Look for local listings, for me I bought an Ibanez SZ720, which goes around for $900, for $500 and it is mint condition. toronto.craigslist.ca is what I use.

should probably go with one of these packs. You need a guitar and amp, and these packs has everything to get you started
