What’s best to one person is not to another, regardless of price.
A lot of guys lean towards EMG active pickup for metal. Seymour Duncan now has their Live Wire active pickups.
For passives, I’ve always used Duncans, but that’s just a personal choice. I’d look at the Dimebucker (Dimebag Darrell’s model), the Invader, or the Distortion Distortion.
From DiMarzzio, the X2N is about the hottest thing they have as far as output goes. I’ve heard a Hamer Standard guitar with a Tone Zone in the bridge, and it sounds really good with a decent amount of output.
The thing to remember with passive pickups is that there will always be a trade off between output and frequency response. The hotter the pickup gets, the higher the inductance and the less high frequency information it’s able to put out.
Good luck.
