probably a samick, squier or cheaper ibanez
To be quite honest, "best" cannot describe any guitar under $100. Sorry. Even one of the worst possible brands, First Act, doesn’t sell full sized guitars under $100. You can find these at Walmart, but I wouldn’t recommend buying them.
If you are looking for a good deal, go to pawn shops, craigslist, or garage sales. Take a friend who knows what is good or bad in a guitar with you, otherwise you will end up buying a broken piece of junk and not even know it.
Look for guitars without any loose parts, a straight neck, all of the pieces, no cracks, and little wear. If a knob seems loose and you don’t know how to replace it, don’t buy the guitar. If the neck is extremely twisted or bent, don’t buy it. If the frets seem really worn, don’t buy it.
You also need to keep in mind that a guitar/bass is an investment in two things:
The first being money – when it comes to instruments, be it a guitar, violin, or saxophone, you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap guitar, it will sound cheap. End of story. For a good starter guitar, I’d save up at least $300 to $450 and $80+ for an amp. Epiphone has a Les Paul for $300 at GuitarCenter.com: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-100-Electric-Guitar-100246478-i1150098.gc Note, this isn’t the best guitar (you’ll hit $4,000+ for the "best"), but it will get you started. Find an amp that is the right size for you. Go to a music shop for this one, don’t buy online.
The second is time. Here is something really, super important – YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY WELL OVER NIGHT. There it is. I don’t care if you can play Guitar Hero on Expert, or you watch your friend play everyday during lunch, you WILL NOT be able to play as well as you want to without YEARS and YEARS of practice. Playing the main riff to Smoke on the Water for 5 hours every day doesn’t really count as practice
I play with guys who’ve had a 6 string in their hands for 20+ years and still can’t play the way they want to. Buyer beware.
