As I have said before when buying a guitar, like anything else, you get what you pay for. But lets be honest, most people who start off playing guitar give up within a few months, and the guitar player just ends up a few hundred dollars poorer. When buying a guitar, buy something cheap, but easy to play.
The best electric guitar for a beginner is the Fender Squire. This is a cheap guitar that is very easy to play, and it looks and sounds great. This is hands down the best choice for a newbie guitarist. Another option would be an Epiphone guitar. Hold off on buying the Les Paul or the ESP until you are sure that playing the guitar is something you want to stick with.
For an amp, a 50-75 watt practice amp will do just fine. You can usually pick up a used one in the paper or at a pawn shop for about $50. Although a pawn shop is a good place to pick up an amp, I would not recommend buying a guitar from one. You will be better off buying new.
get it from a shop like cash converters but make sure you play it and check it out before purchasing it. the strings wouldn’t be a MAJOR problem if they’re flimsy or something because you can always get them changed. but i reccomend you get a good brand like casino or fender strat. remember looks don’t really matter because it might look awesome but it could be a real cheap crappy guitar that’s selling for triple what it’s worth. any electric guitar can play rock or heavy metal, but if you want that really distorted sound, there’s a button the the amp that’ll make it sound grungy.
well hope i helped and good luck!
ps. you can also bargain in those places so you wouldn’t have any problem getting an amp for under 150
