What Are Some Good Rock Songs to Play on Electric Guitar?
I just got an electric guitar and started taking lessons. I started to think when I can play well, what rock songs should I play. I like Avril Lavigne, and a lot of people do. I think I should play other songs too that are rock.

Honestly, the beginning of "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns n Roses would be a good thing to practice
smoke on the water is always a good one, if you like that song.
Eye of the tiger
If you aren’t playing "Smoke on the Water", you can’t say you’re learning how to play electric guitar.
try playing sweet dreams by marilyn manson that’s an awesome song to play
Icky Thump by the White Stripes… if you’re really into rock music you should look into that
Die Romantic by Aiden
It is a really good song, the reason behind it is really deep and sad and even If you have never heard the song you can still pick up on it, just by listening to it.
Cool, you just got your first electric guitar! How does it feel? I’ve had my first electric guitar for almost 7 months and I love it! What kind of guitar is it? I have a Yamaha. Ok I guess I need to answer your question……I think you should start out by playing "Brain Stew" by Green Day. It’s really easy (just four chords played over and over again) and it’s really fun to play. Just remember to always practice your finger exercises and you’ll be able to master any Avril Lavigne song! If you into Avril Lavigne and want to Rock, I would suggest starting with 90s alternative, especially Nirvana and Bush, they had great simple guitar parts that sounded awesome. Start with "Come as you are", "glycerine", "come down", "Negative Creep", and "all apologies" … stuff like that.
Defintately move on after that though… After a while try learning songs from the late 60s into the mid 80s
‘Dimension’ by Wolfmother
My favorite songs to play are…
"Misery Business" by Paramore
"My Heroine" by Silverstein
"The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" by Brand New
and a lot others, but those are my Top 3
This will sound stupid, but after a few years of playing it might start to make sense. You should learn nursery rhymes, and things like the sesame street song or any little jingles like that, that you remember from when you were little. This will develop your ear much faster than playing songs that are fairly new to you. These are songs that are deep in your mind and will help to show you how the notes are connected, so privately, a little each night, try to work on them. Here is a great site to elp develop note recognition – http://www.good-ear.com/servlet/EarTrainer – If you can associated the different intervals with parts of songs that you know very well, someday you will be able to hear something and know exactly how to play it. I am still working on this myself, but it is much more rewarding than simply memorizing where and when to move your fingers.
Learn popular songs also, because nobody will want to listen to you play nursery rhymes except maybe little kids… they might even make fun of you. And work on rhythm. If you ever want to really jam with others timing is essential.
