Sweep Picking – ULTIMATE GUIDE
www.homestudioland.com Please visit the site for the accompanying pdf tablature and the power tablature. Sweep picking is something that has to be practiced time and time again - for years, to ultimately master. Most don't realize it, but sometimes, it's simply a matter of TIME and longevity when attempting to achieve the sweep picking technique that you desire. In this video I show you the BARE TECHNIQUE and mechanics of sweep picking. You can go anywhere on the net or to any guitar book and find arpeggio shapes, so I left it to mainly the bare technique of sweep picking. Depending on your fretting hand's location on the fretboard, you'll have either more or less tension than you need to precisely execute it. Conversely, you've got to position your picking hand more toward the bridge of the nut to create more of the tension that you need to pull it off. Lastly, the grip of your pick plays a big role in how much tension you create. It can either mean lots of movement in your wrist, or less. It's up to preference - up to you to decide what the best route to take is.

I have a big problem – I can manage to get lef hand part alone, and right hand part alone, but when I put them together I can’t mute the strings :S I mean when I for example sweep over G 12 like in your example, when I am about to hit the next string, my hand just automaticly makes a small pull off and makes the empty G string cling… making it sound horrible… any advice on this?
@stillbadz I still have problems with this very thing until today. I’ve been forced to do one of two things: 1) use a cloth around the neck to mute the strings not being played, or 2) be EXTREMELY careful.
Some say that using a cloth around the neck is cheating, but hey, I’m not into music for competition. They do it all the time in studios.
your pick gripping technique really help me out..
thank dude..

Very nice lessons.
I found this video really useful, thanks. I was interested in the different ways you hold your pick too.
Many thanks, I found this video really useful. I was also interested in the different ways you hold your pick… this is something I’m experimenting with.
@GuitarGnosis Yeah even Marty Friedman used a string cloth wrapped around the neck in the studio to stop the open strings, and that guy is a freakin pro.
Do you use that guitar when you are brushing your teeth?
@evildude25 Nah, just for applying mascara and lipstick.
@GuitarGnosis
?
is it frustrated to see your self back in your guitar
you can help get rid of that rubbing noise by turning down your tone.
Some sweep picking theory would be nice.
i got a huge problem, im sweeping in drop c… nothings wrong with it but when i let go of the string it sounds like im pulling off. si when it goes faster it gets extremely dirty. what is the problem? ive got a highish action but is that the problem?

Thank you for the video bro, I can play pretty well but I can not sweep pick for beans man…I can play the first few strings at 110 bps or so, haven’t gone back to the nome to really recheck my speed but your style of teaching is unique and I appriciate the time you put into the video. Keep it real and take care -AW
Very nice guide, it helped alot in my sweep picking technique. I cant palm mute strings very well when sweep picking, is there any problem if i pick on the last fret of the fretboard for less tension?
