Sweep Picking Lesson

Hi, I had a few requests for me to teach this sweep that I do...so here it is along with a few tips and some exercises. I was really tired when I shot this please excuses my appearence :-) The Lydian Arp in my exercise is not a strict Lydian Arp, because it starts 1 3 5 and then flow Lyd from there with the b5.

I saw and met him at Muzikmesse he was great :-)

  2. ArchEnemy789 says:

Awesome. I’d love to see them some time. They played near my college, but I couldn’t go. :(
I’m probably getting his signature seven-string guitar this summer. :)

  3. fefi20 says:

the best thing for sweep its to use your upward pickup and not the downward because if you do its actually kill the sound or something if you do

  4. feakesfeakes says:

good lesson. but i think the main problem that people have with sweeping is not what arpeggios to play but the technique of the actual sweep, especially the picking hand. many people wouldn’t know the strumming action of the right hand.

    you look sleepy :)
fab playin another kwl vid, it helped thax

  6. RobChappers says:

Thanks mate, yeah I was verrry tired when I shot this :-)

  7. Semach4444 says:

Dude. I love that you used to use strats…I’m a strat guy myself, and I’ve built one with p-90s, trying to get the thickness of a humbucker, with the sharp/bright sound of a single coil, all with the comfortability of the strat body…. It seems you used strats more in your older videos. Any reason for the swith, other than the endorsements?

  8. RobChappers says:

To be honest I love strats, but had to sell a bunch of guitars when I went through some financial strife a while back and I only kept my endorsed guitars. I’ll get another one soon, can’t beat a beat up 70′s Strat.

  9. lehremich says:

do you have TABS for it ? thx a lot

  10. thenewmush says:

I have finally plucked up rhe courage to start sweeping

  11. 94saml94 says:

thankyou thankyou, omg i luv you, if it wasnt for u i wud still be struggling on sweeps as i’ve always used a thin pick (0.60mm)omg thankyou so much XD \m/

  12. GroovyGuitar02 says:

so true , for example strats sound so clean for sweep picking and the neck feels better … a friend of mine has a 70′s strat with the maple neck , van zandt pickups and new huge frets … used to be sonic blue , now it’s almost white with a classic 60′s pin-up sticker ^^

i’ve played that guitar : this is just heaven on 6 strings … i like my ibanez guitars too but it’s a different feeling (my cherished japanese one needs clean-sounding dimarzios by the way ,OEM pickups aren’t clean at all)

  13. 112358miau says:

Shit, I dont understand all that u say. What kind of pick and strings is the best?

  14. surtursfire says:

Thick strings, thick picks. I think Rob uses like 2 mm picks, and in the vid he says .11 strings are nice for sweeping.

  15. 112358miau says:

    Thnx

  16. audiosyncrasy09 says:

good for u all talking about the strats brand!…lol your not to me, i have a costumized built guitar. no brand! made of plywood and some cheap pick ups…wahahaha no idea bout the comfort…if i just only got that strat your talking about

  17. ZachJG2221 says:

    Hey this is gman2221

  18. Dumbjackass says:

I fail at my right hand on sweeping

Whenever i try and play…I either mute all the strings, or i dont mute any.

    Any right hand technique tips?

  19. downfallsociety says:

one expensive guitar?with crappy sound is it out of tone?

  20. kyrinp7 says:

I’m using a fender thick plectrum and .10 frnder 250′s on a jackson js1 dinky with the action set as low as possible but i still can’t get the technique. any help?

  21. zomgzomglawlawlawl says:

best way to practice sweeping is to go dead slow when you start

  22. kyrinp7 says:

am i right in assuming that to sweep i need arpeggios?

  23. Leitordedvds says:

    something like that, yes

  24. Tranqx says:

all about the jazz 3 picks woot! Someone help me with my sweeping. lol anyone live in miami i need a lesson.

  25. lukus680 says:

    To kyrinp7
Use something to dampen strings at the top of the neck, keep it slow and build up, try different gains and shapes.
