SWEEP PICKING – ARPEGGIOS – by Brian Auer
Brian Auer talks a bit on his technique on sweep picking arpeggios, I believe the secret to smooth arpeggios is in the picking. A lot of guitarists have really fast hands with a lot of arpeggio shapes but no definition or tone. The pick and the attack on the strings have a lot to do with that, granted the left hand has a big part as well. Having callused fingers makes a big difference too. Most people angle their hand one way when sweeping up and another way when sweeping down. I hear this causing a slurred sound with no definition as well as causing difficulties with timing. To correct this I started holding my whammy bar between my pinky and ring finger. This enabeled me to be able to feel what the strings tension and pick response would be if my hand didn't adjust to the direction. Using the whammy bar as sort of a training wheel or crutch. The smooth and exacting motion of the whammy bar allowed me to focus on other aspects of the sound of my arpeggios. I began to pick very hard and agressive holding my hand strait and pushing through the strings, not over them. once I had the motion down I dropped the whammy bar and practiced the motion without it as I learned to keep the tone but ease up on the attack. The angle of your hand needs to be flat just like when you palm mute a rythm. The gradual angling comes from the fingers holding the pick. In my case the thumb and first finger. But, you don't want to angle it very much because you will lose tone and dynamics. It's up ...

i think the hardest part about sweep picking is geting your gear to sound right
it would make my day if send me the last arpeggio you played, that one you slide your index finger a fret. Sounds so freaking nice. Thanks! it’s hard for me to listen how this is played to fastt
@Lalaldd Check the video response

that was BRILLIANT, hopefully someday ill be as good as you
what type strings do you have
@064panik Fuck emotion. He shredded. By the way could you make a tutorial on how you did 0:26 – 0:35? Please.
It’s true. I personally feel that the right hand is always holding me back. However, with that attitude you might as well be a keyboardist. Thanks for this demonstration, I have a lot to learn.
way to go brian…love it…check out bumblefoots ”guitars still suck”..if you havent already..think you ll like it ..peace
@laytonrocks1 lmao you better be joking i just watched yoru video its good but this guys amazing
@highintel i watched some videos of laytonrocks1….. hes not better than you lol
@laytonrocks1 first of all…..the point of learning an instrument is not to smack talk and say your better than others…its about forming your own ideas and sharing those ideas with others so you can connect with others. and 2nd of all i saw your cliffs of dover video and im sorry but Highintel could play 1 string 2 finger arpeggio’s and still make you look like a 2 pump chump so GTFO,have a good day
trade guitars?
@laytonrocks1 haa not close
Very Nice man Realy Clean and played niceley
@laytonrocks1 i saw your video and i think not.
horrible tone with a lower grade bc rich beast. get a nj with a floyd and you’ll
play even less clean. tail stop is easier to mute strings by the way.
You remind me of Dime, not by the way of playing but by emotions you put in when you play guitar, awesome dude.
FUCK…i cant sweep worth shit
