Fundamentally Acoustic is best. Every teacher and good serious guitarist would say the same. However, right now, This part isn’t about fundamentals or what builds finger strength or is better practice.
RIGHT NOW, you should think about what you won’t get bored with. SO MANY people buy instruments, even spend thousands on them, then leave them on the stands to never be touched again, or they get left behind in a busy life. Right now, think of what you listen and want to play most. If its any band with electricity, get the electric.
If you listen to more acoustic songs, and want to bring it around and play with friends, get the acoustic.
This decision is mostly about keeping it fun for you, so just get the funnest choice for you so you’ll spend more time on it. After a while, if you play enough and long enough, you’ll want to expand to the other style yourself and learn both worlds.
Good luck
Best quote : "there’s a reason why its called PLAYING the guitar"
From experience, start with an acoustic. They are harder to play than electric, but more practical for a beginner because you don’t all the gadgets like an amp, effect pedals, and cables. Once you can play with an acoustic, pick up and electric and you will be amazed with how easy it is to play. But it also all depends on what kind of music you are into.
I have both, and I like my acoustic.
Its sounds better to me.
And its cheaper.
