Well for one thing, why in the heck are you learning on an electric?
and why do you need a killer electric guitar for your 1st one? because seriously I started playing (I learned on acustic) at 4, and I got my 1st electric at 10. It was a gibson les paul, but I had been playing for 6 years.
you need an electric tuner. extra strings, guitar picks, a case, and a strap.
and please don’t tell me you picked a guitar because it was pretty? you should always pick a guitar by how it feels in your hand, the larger the neck, (for a beginner) the better. I found that a strat’s neck is very comfortable for small hands like mine.
EDIT-Also there’s the chance you won’t like guitar, and then you’ve wasted 2000 bucks on a sweet guitar.
but I thought I should mention, you should look for a guitar with a locking nut, if it doesn’t have one your guitar will go out of tune quickly, especially using the whammy. Jackson guitars are super cool, and have the locking nut, and aren’t outragously esxpensive for a 1st guitar. Check out the Randy Rhodes style.
EDIT (again)
Just so you know he know what killer means..just like all of us who have answered this, what kind of guitar is it?
First off (as a chick guitarist) i must say, sweet! Guitar is one of the best instruments.
I’d get an amp. Maybe not for the first lesson, but it’d be good to have just in case your teacher doesn’t have one for you to use.
What kind of Guitar are you getting ?
STRAP LOCKS; Many guitars hit the floor, because the straps come lose, these are good to have.
Your fingers will hurt at first, also it may seem like your going nowhere but i advise you to NOT give up. It doesn’t just happen over night.
Practise,Practise, Practise !
Also, make sure you learn theory & it be good to learn tabs ( so you can figure out songs easier at first)
First off I would start on acoustic. Why? You can’t hide bad playing with distortion – you’ll have to get better. The action on an acoustic is usually bigger, which will force you to learn to play better.
An amp would probably be nice is your going to play electric anyways because practicing electric without an amp just makes it kind of boring and you don’t get the same sound
You’re gonna want to have new strings, a tuner always comes in handy, and picks.
and just out of curiosity what is this "killer electric guitar"?
EDIT:
I know what killer means, I’m asking what’s the brand and the make/style.
ex. Gibson, epihone, fender, ibenez….
It really depends… It would help to get a tuner. I didn’t have one until about my 8th year of playing, as I’d tune to certain songs where the low E string would ring out long enough to tune to, but you may want one for convenience.
Depending on what amp you get, you may need a distortion pedal, and I’d suggest something by BOSS. They make the best pedals out of all the bigger companies. If you get any kind of pedal, you’ll need another guitar cable. Your guitar gets plugged into the pedal, the pedal gets plugged into the amplifier, and most pedals will come with an external power unit, you know, the black box that plugs into the electrical outlet on your wall.
