no, they can be treated as similar instruments or separate ones. you can start on which ever one you choose.
Not necessarily. A guitar is pretty much a guitar. An acoustic guitar makes its own sound.
An electric guitar needs an amplifier unless your just sitting around and strumming. But you can learn to play from either one. About the only difference is the strumming techniques. Listen to some of your favorite songs and you’ll start to notice different techniques that are used by the musicians playing acoustics or electric guitars.
You need to choose between electric and acoustic based on what type of music you like to play. The hardest thing about learning guitar is sticking with it for the first few months, which is when most people quit. If you are into Metallica you won’t be happy learning on acoustic most likely and if you’re into folk or bluegrass you won’t be happy playing electric.
You don’t have to, it just depends on your preference. I started with electric.
No, you don’t need to play acoustic first. Just start playing the electric. You can teach yourself to play by learning to read guitar tabs. Do a google search for guitar tabs, there’s tons of them out there for free.
I was in the same boat that you are in. I feel that learning on the acoustic is more beneficial because the sound is pure and you don’t have to worry about the amp or any of the guitar’s settings.
The general consensus is that electric guitars are more forgiving to beginners, but I definitely think that learning on an acoustic is better.
