Ha! stairway to heaven! that was the first song i tried to play. it is an evil song. i have to say that you make a very great point. people that just play and dont learn what guitar was built on are some weird ones (im one of them) some musicians are really good by just playing allot and not knowing what there doing but i know its better for atleast me to learn this basic stuff. it will make me a better player

Learning the ‘basic’ stuff never ends, really. Getting it down gives you more options and control. I played for about 30 years without knowing the theory. But boy, once I studied theory it just opened the door for me.
Well yeah, that’s right. There is no shortcut, just go the straight line, all other ways are even longer.

I use tabs for waay to elaborated stuff for me
like spanish romanza and Granada (Isak albeniz)…
Other – like yugoslav rock, and classic american rock I try by ear, simple rumba..
it’s about 1 tab, 10-20 songs by ear.

I’m like watching this, and i can’t believe it. You really hit the nerve of it, man. Well, i’m just a begginer, but i’ve seen bunch of guys who droped it because of what ur sayin’. See, i’m 22 yrs old, and i’m just starting. And I don’t have much free time, but i’ll make some.

This video…. it’s like it was made for me. It’s opened my eyes, and I am so grateful to you, really. And the most funny thing is I’m actually learning Stairway to Heaven now, and I started guitar 5 months ago and I’ve honestly skipped those steps. I am coping well with Stairway to Heaven, but I’ll get it all much faster with the real knowledge behind me. And I’m sitting here in a face-palm position because I should have realised this earlier. This video is a lifesaver. Thanks very very much.
This message has helped me stick to the basics more than any other message. I started about eight months ago and was tempted to take other avenues like tabs etc and came across this message. I am now sticking to learning it from the ground up and even though its time consuming I can already see the benefits. Thank you so much.

this is actually exactly what happened to me… i started learning chords and everything was fine until i started trying to learn songs and completely abandoned the theory.. since i’ve never had a teacher i got no one to correct me and wasted a lot of time because of that
im now learning the penta and major scales but feel a bit down beacause of all the time i wasted 
… i love playing the guitar still so.. guess theres hope for me
people learn in different ways. just saying

@offwithurhead Then go buy a guitar course and use it. Complete it. Gibson’s Learn & Master Guitar is very good.
