Learn Electric Guitar Frets

Could it be stupid if I was given an electric guitar sound without an amplifier, to learn?
I want to get a Squier bullet but can not really afford to amp now. I'm about to start taking guitar lessons, but everything now is a child size guitar noise with 10 frets around. It's like a piece of shit. While I could just have an electric w / o the amp, and still have a good sound? or is it just stupid?
Well, the sound is not too good, but it will not be stupid. Try to see if you have a Freecycle around and see if they have amplifiers. Ebay also have low prices. I was actually in the same situation as you a few years ago. I started taking classes with an acoustic mini-economy. I really had to learn!
