No, it’s very easy to play it.

But if you want to play it WELL, that’s a different story. My dad taught himself guitar but it took years.

"So you wanna be a rock ‘n roll star, do what I say, do what i say. Just grab an electric guitar and learn how to play…"

  2. t-bone says:

No it is very easy, but the problem is unless you understand the many complexities of the instrument it is much better and faster to learn how to handle the easy stuff, with time you can get to handle the ax like a jet. i had lessons for three years my wife was given a 12 string unit that was so boss, i hooked it up and have never put it down lessons are the best way if you don’t learn the right way you will get bored and drop out, not taking lessons is a cop out.
all you will learn without lessons is the three simple cords it really boring after a while.

Of course, or everyone could just strap on a guitar and go!! Unless you are an eric clapton, (self taught) or similar, I suppose you should be asking, "is it easy to play well, or at least competently" I mean learn 4 chords, and that covers most pop tunes!! 12 bar blues is relatively easy, well, unless you cannot hold a guitar correctly, and /or co -ordinate both hands, etc. All in all, there is no straightforward answer, it depends on so many factors. Even with lessons you might be hopeless, the only thing you can do is try, and practice a lot. It’s not impossible.

  4. Todd Mitcham says:

I think for certain things like technique it’s best to have a teacher. They can show you good form so that you don’t injure yourself (through stress in your neck, shoulder, hand and wrists) and so that you can play faster later on.

For musical theory there are plenty of good resources online. I posted a link to a site which has lessons on music theory for beginner guitar players.
