Is an Acoustic Guitar or an Electric One Better for Starters?
Hey, I'm planning on playing the electric guitar and I've never actually played a guitar before so I'm wondering if I should start with an acoustic since i don't want to spend so much on stuff.
And which brand should I get?

I started on acoustic, and that’s what I recommend.
For one, an acoustic is more portable…you can take it anywhere.
An electric, you’ll have to lug around an amp and a cable, at minimum, plus you’re restricted to only those areas that have electricity, meaning you can’t very well take an electric to the beach, or camping. (They do make little plug in amps, and also small amps powered by batteries, but that’s more expense)
With an acoustic…you’ll play more, plus it will help build finger strength much faster then an electric.
For acoustics…try to buy one that has a "solid top." it will last a lifetime, or more. If the ad doesn’t say "solid top" it doesn’t have one, as solid tops are preferable and the tone of the guitar will improve through the years.
Fender makes some great solid top acoustics for about $250, even Guitar Player magazine likes the low end Fenders.
Best of luck, and find a friend who also plays guitar…you’ll improve 10 times faster then you will sitting alone in your room practicing.
acoustic guitar can identify more faults,if if your fingers have placed correctly or not.so to learn ,u must have an acoustic first.electric guitar is really smoooother than acoustic, usually catch less faults .u must make your finger strong …when u learn to write .u used a pencil ,coz u can erase your mistakes.pen later for smoother and higher performance..
if your confident you ll stick with playing the guitar get an electric, get a fender
An electric guitar is very smoothly played but more painful to your fingers because of metal strings.
An acoustic guitar is gonna make that ”dink” and ”tick” now and again.
But i started with acoustic. I personally think its easier.
IDK at some point in your life if you keep playing your going to need both, I play mainly electric but would be lost without my acoustic, depending on the quality of the guitars there both going to play the same, just different, you’ll know what I’m talking about later on down the road, pick one dosent matter which one for now.
You can learn equally well on either one. Consider the music you like and want to be able to play and then buy whichever guitar is more appropriate. That will motivate you to keep you practicing until you’re successful. Don’t believe anyone who tells you that one or the other is the only way to start. Good luck.
You can ask a worker at the store where you’ll plan on getting your guitar, like guitar center, and you can ask the guy what kind of guitar to buy for beginners. But my opinion is to know what kind of music you want to play and see videos on Youtube of people playing the songs you like on electric or acoustic guitar and think which one sounds better to you. Or you can ask a relative that you know who plays guitar and ask them since they know how to play it and you can probably ask them if they can teach you and ask them if you can borrow their guitar to decide what to get. For brand, you can ask a relative you know with experience or ask a guy at the store. Hope this helps!
Listen to average mike. Knows his stuff.
Get a cheap one. For electric, I’d recommend the Squier kit. It comes with everything you’ll need, it’s like 300 bucks. Acoustic, I’d go with something in the $150-200 range, and trust me, they’re all pretty much the same.
I might get railed on for this, but pick one out purely based on looks. If a guitar looks awesome to you, that fact alone might make you want to play it more. The key to beginning guitar is to dedicate some time to it, that’s the only way.
Both guitars are played the same way. Same strings, same notes, everything. To get sound from an electric, you need a cable and an amp, which could make it cost more than an acoustic. Anyways, an acoustic just plain sounds better, and it can be used for a number of genres.
probably an acoustic because you dont need an amp and you can learn easier songs
i would get an electric, becouse mostly all you can do with an acoustic is chords. and i would get an Ibanez. they are very versitile. and i think they sound and look alot better then a Fender.
acoustic. electric can be too overwhelming.
in my opinion i will play the acoustic guitar more than electric .
It’s convenient and popular
It’s a help for starters
you can try
i strongly recommend an acoustic guitar because it will get you off on the right track and it’s cool, but you could also learn from elecric just get a starter pack
i recommend you buy a starter pack from http://www.musiciansfriend.com that come with guitar tuners dvd lessons and more
Try to use an acoustic guitar with nylon strings if you are a total beginner. You can also get one with steel strings, but it will be a little hard to play at first and your fingers will hurt.
When I was a total beginner, I’ve been using an acoustic guitar with steel strings. It was a little hard to play at first on that one, but I couldn’t get an acoustic guitar with nylon strings in the city I live.
So, if you can get an acoustic with nylon strings, get one for start. If you can’t, try getting one with steel strings.
You can buy an electric guitar after you will learn some things (such as chords and others) on the acoustic. My opinion is that an electric guitar is a bit more "complicated", if you are an absolute beginner.
I would say an electric is more durable which is plus but with an acoustic you dont need need to purchase an amp and its way more portable. So its up to your style if you wanna learn metal or rock def. go for the electric to get that cruchy gainy sound
You always want to learn on an acoustic. Electric guitars are often easier to play, but starting on an electric will cause some problems. First of all your not going to catch as many of your mistakes on an electric as you would on an acoustic. Second an acoustic is going to build up your finger strength and callouses much better than an electric. And if you can play an acoustic then you can play anything, where as if you learn on electric it will be a lot more difficult to move to acoustic. So my advice is get yourself a good mid level acoustic such as a Takamine or a Yamaha and use that as your learning. As you progress eventually you will need to get an electric butdefinitelyy start with an acoustic, and you will be much better off in the long run.
an electric guitar i believe has better strings for beginners, there slightly more taught and the fretboard is more accessible, i would go for an ibanez because of the reliability and sound. then go to ultimate-guitar for tabs
