Ibanez Acoustic Electric Guitar Aw
setting up my ibanez acoustic?
i have an ibanez AW 20 CE acoustic electric guitar. somehow i managed to break the original plastic bridge that was on it. i bought a new one and filed it down to the height of the original the best i could but it still doesn't feel right. does anybody know the measurements that the bridge height should be at? also if you have any other tips for setting up this guitar i would like to know. thanks.
Ibanez bridges usually have marks on them to help you keep the small strings at the proper height compared to the bigger strings. Could be a square on each side of the bridge... or some markings... Just make sure they're even on both sides.
Most people like the action set about where two quarters just fit between the larger (6th) string and the 12th fret without lifting the string. Make sure the relief in the neck is right before filing the bridge. Make sure the strings are at the proper tension when you do the quarter test. You might want to keep the action just a touch higher than that. Some guitars will buzz at that height and you'd have to add a shim or get another bridge.
