a sponge with the green pad on the back works great. and use the yellow part to wipe it off.
Does this stay forever or do i need to do this every once in a while?
@CrypticFerret yes! This is just good for those acid hand guys whose sweat reacts to the finish.
@mangeiksde follow the procedure (ie find the PROPER scotch brite pads) and it works awesome. I bought a brand new Gibson Les Paul Studio – paid $1300 and did this first thing. You can also use a super fine emory paper on a maple type finish neck. Something a tool and die maker might use I normally go with a 1200 grit (or higher.) and Man you watch how awesome it works !!
@ChrisHaspeck i’m not afraid for guitar now,i just can’t find a pads,because i live in small city in Serbia. by the way thanks a lot for help!
this got to be a joke! LOL
This isn’t a joke. I did it to my Les Paul and it makes a huge difference. I was having problems with my hand sticking to the finish and not sliding smoothly. This tip is really a great one, and no one is really going to notice the back while your’re playing. And if you do it right it doesn’t look bad or anything anyways.
i did this to my synyster custom and my SG its amazing how much a difference is, now it feels like a zakk wylde/ jeff loomis type neck ( satin )
no facking way dude…..this drops the price when selling.
Just done this to one of my guitars and its made a really big difference .Now my hands dont stick to the neck like glue when Im moving up or down it. and position changes are a breeze. And it looks just fine.
Hey Man Nice Technique you got there. I play Acoustic and its neck is wooden basically but has a glossy finish. Tell me if your Technique is applicable on my guitar. Thanx
@MrKami02 Yes as long as it is a urethane or poliesther finish.
why shouldn’t it be done on a nitro finish?
@luvmycorso It’s too soft Sir.
What if I’d like to do that AND maintain the gloss finish? I noticed the finish disappeared entirely.
@race1717 It’s impossible!
@badguitarp Nothing five minutes with some rubbing compound wont reverse.
can i do this modification on my guitar that had a matte finish when i first bought it, but usage since then has worn off the matte on the back of the neck? it’s an esp ec-256
@pipecfh becuz 95% of us know that someday we may want/ or need to sell our instrument. Just like modding a car.
when i play, i don’t slide my left palm on the neck: that seems silly. I slide my the pads on the palm, the parts right under my fingers, on the bottom side of the neck and use my thumb as a sort of guide to slow my hand down, like brakes, when I arrive at the desire location on the finger board. Are people really fully palming the neck SO MUCH that their hands are STICKING to it? Folks, sorry, but you need to work on technique, not so much the neck.
@crystalballer7983 that being said, I won’t knock it until I’ve tried it. But, Mr. Frudua, will I benefit at all with the technique I use because I’ve never played a guitar that my left palm “stuck” to. And when I get all sweaty, the neck gets slipperier, not sticky! Also, I have a Dean Mustaine VMNTX V guitar and a Fender Squier. Do you know what type of finishes are on these guitars necks?
It is logic,
but how about not to do this to your expansive Guitar(s) and use just “baby Powder” in your hand.
Press the number for fun in the video
4 – Pelpa!
8 – Little fail
@crystalballer7983 why not work on the neck as well? why not have an instrument that doesn’t turn to fly paper when your hand releases the smallest amount of sweat? are you going to tell geddy lee or jaco to put that thick ass fender finish back on the bulk of their necks? look, everyone’s real proud of you for having such killer technique. keep on with that. but don’t act like a high-gloss finish is something that should be present on a player’s instrument.
You could find some teflon tape if you dont want to sacrifice the instruments finish, This is what I did on a Rickenbacker neck.
