Guitar Tricks 51: Raking Technique
www.guitartricks.com This week Neal teaches how to apply the raking technique. Raking can be used while playing rhythm or lead guitar and is one of the key elements to sweep picking. If you want to learn how to sweep pick but are new at it, raking is a good way to warm up to the sweep picking technique.

where is your jesus cross gone from your neck? i hope u have some healthy brains left not to put it back on your neck. artists create religions, artists dont follow religions.
Eb tuning is pretty amazing, takes getting used to though. i’ve been attempting raking using the index muting, it is uncomfortable, never thought of palm muting, then again i’m not very good with that either, MORE PRACTICE! Thanks for another great video Neal!
Request for a lesson: Some shredding tips ,techniques and stuff…
Omg thats an amazing guitar. what model of gibson is it? and great lesson helped alott
@KingCurry84 les paul custom looks like
Good tip, but the raking technique is much better with a fuckin’ bend on 17th fret on e string.
when i taught wyself to rake, i eperimented a little and figured out how to use it to make a WakaWaka sound so cool.
Slash slash… he is a fucking idiot!!!!!!! He has nothing special!! His playing is extremely fucking ordinary! He is incredibly famous because he was in an extremely popular band… but that doesn’t mean he is a virtuoso like Zakk Wylde, Randy Rhoads, Doug Aldrich, Paco De Lucia, Dimebag Darrel, EVH, Al Di Meola etc.
truly… fuck him!!! I’m sick and tired of reading and listening always to the same bullshit
@mturquie Agreed, he was great in Guns n Roses,but when he quit and stated Slash´s Snakepit,i though i was listening to GNR and then he did the same thing with Velvet Revolver,in my opinion, he couldn´t light a candle to Eddie Van Halen, Lynch and Paul Gilbert,but it´s just my opinion.
L-lesson
Yheaaa keep rocking
request : pleas could u make a shredding lesson
@MrBibo0o Shredding just takes practice.
@warpyable its takes right practise too…
so i thought maybe he can show the way how to learn to shred..
How much longer will I live if I rake?
Nice lesson Neal.
@patrick11deutsch DANG, missed that one!
@KingCurry84 Thanks, glad it helped out! The guitar is a Les Paul Custom ’78
Thanks for watching
Neal
@sbent518 You’re welcome, thanks for tuning in too!
Neal
@RickBlacker Thanks Rick!
Yeah the raking technique is what I’ve had trouble with doing leads. I’m getting better though. I naturally want to use my palm anyway. I’m a big riffer and not a shredder. I’ll keep practicing.
you mentioned tuning. I have one of my Ibanezes tuned to Drop C, my Jackson to Eb, and my other Ibanez tuned to Standard. It has a whammy bar to top it off! This gives me a more well-rounded playing style. I can play heavy metal riffs, or classics like The Star Spangled Banner with some crazy dive bombs, or just a simple solo to ease the soul.
:39 THEY USE THE PICK OF DESTINY!!!!
whenever i look for vids on guitar lessons on youtube, i can only ever find ones that are way below my standard like this (no offense by the way) or ones that are way above my standard and it’s starting to annoy me, i never had guitar lessons, i’ve always been self taught and i only recently thought about watching youtube guitar lessons.
I hate when people say “Tuning down a half step sounds heavier.” No it doesn’t. Let’s be real, it’s the same thing, just a half step down. There’s barely any tonal difference at all, and you wouldn’t know a song was a half step down without perfect pitch anyway.
waaiitt so umm if u play ur guitar it makes u live longer?? wtf
