Do I Need an Electric Guitar Yet and Do I Need Lessons Again?
Hey guys, I have an acoustic guitar and I've been playing it since February this year (2008). I took about 3 guitar lessons at my school but I forgot to go to them after so for the past 8/9 months I've been teaching myself but I feel I can play quite a lot and I really want an electric guitar but my dad says that I have to cover a few solos on my acoustic guitar and do quite a lot more before I can get an electric but IMO you need an electric guitar if you want to cover some solos.

I can play open chords, barre chords and I know my sharps/flats and in minors as well (which isn't that hard to do)
The only guitar solo I can play properly will be Handle This by Sum 41. So do you think I could do with an electric guitar yet and will I need to take guitar lessons. I can't take lessons in school because my dad doesn't want it to take up my time in lessons, is taking online lessons any good? Hey
Looks like you play a lot of chords/power chords in your songs by your list. Do you play a lot of lead guitar?
I must say it is a lot easier to play solos and lead guitar on an electric because the strings are closer to the fret board and you can move around faster.
I found an electric much easier to handle and play so i would recommend it fo that reason, however it may be better practice on an acoustic.
You may surprise yourself with an electric! i would recommend it! it looks like you know the basics,… and lessons arent as neccesity to great giutar playing… i know someone who had never had a lesson and was compeletly self tought! a lot of the greats are self tought =]
i’d say go for it if you can afford it!
