yeah usually distortion pedals are made to be through the direct line.. i think this goes the same for blues and metal pedals as well… but other than that special effects* that add other things should be plug in fx loop
I liked the tone George got with these on Tooth & Nail. Each time I listen to that record, I start looking online for one of these amps.
Own one. Gorgeous clean channel & king-kong ‘verb. Louder than God, unlike most SS amps of comparable wattage.
DIR-TAY channel not that bad for an older SS amp, but still — it’s old SS dir-tay. Really cool as a BOOST for leads, though — set it low gain, high volume, slam it IN ADDITION to clean ch. (remember, this amp’ll mix the two — need the footswitch to do this trick live) and it burns in a lotta mids-high mids that slice thru like a knife for solos.
Takes pedals well. BULLETPROOF.
8-ohm ext. cab — bumps up to 100 watts.
Like I said, takes pedals well — futz around with either or both channels.
Much lighter & more organic-sounding than a JC 120.
And built like production-line amps AIN’T built anymore.
Mine has a peculiar but HEVVY-duty 6-blade 2-button LED footswitch, which are harder’n hell to find. But worth it.
It’s not about running pedals per say. I believe it’s more intended for rack mount fx’s, compressors, etc. Especially for in-studio, and on stage.
ehh idk, dont like the thin dirty channel, but clean is awesome
Yeah he did
I bet alot of people didnt realize that it was a solid state head
the trc cover on his gibson looks upside down lol
I just 1 hour ago pull one of these out of a ditch and am going to rebuild it
Designed by Gary Sunda, along with all the other great Randall amps from that era.
hehe “dirty” channel =]
That’s a lot of distortion!
This video brings back bad memories. I bought one of these in ’83-’84 and had it as my main amp until ’95. I honestly never liked it much (but couldn’t afford better stuff at the time). A few issues: in a band environment when it was cranked mine would “howl” with an annoying electronic noise. The reverb ALWAYS gave me issues and would start to build a high-pitched whine if you turned it up too high. I never used combining the channels. I always uses clean/dirty an together they sound bad
I wish I could find something like that in a ditch.
The head versions are the ones to look out for.
I still use this amp today. I love mine. Gigged with it for years. Excellent all around amp, but I don’t know where he gets his $180 price quote.
your a fag
and they still sound like they did back then.
yuck!
awkward guitarist lol
play the guitar you utter utter douche
No kidding… wayyyyyyy tooooo much talky talky!?!?!?!?!?!?!
i got mine for 75 bucks used!
the distortion sucks pretty badly! specially if you’re going for a hi gain metal sound. you CAN get a decent distortion out of it, problem is you have to pull the treble knob wich means you’ll be loosing a lot of mids and definiton and when you play live it would be the equivalent of you playing trough a cheap 10 watt amp (trust me, i used to play with it live).. but the clean channel is LOUD and it’s really good! however i’d recomend to buy a distortion pedal
There’s a blues band in the Bay area called Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers. .a top notch well known blues band. The lead guitar guy uses this amp! He told me that his is modified. Being a tube amp guy, I have to say that he was getting some impressive tones out of this thing.
edge played 2 of these in popmart
play the guitar cunt so we can hear it. stop talking
