AmpKit App & AmpKit LiNK Guitar Interface Review – Part 2
An in-depth review of the new guitar amp, cabinet, pedal and mic modeling app AmpKit from Agile Partners, plus the AmpKit LiNK hardware from Peavey Electronics that lets you plug your guitar or bass into an iPhone or iPad. Be sure to check out part one here - www.youtube.com In part two I discuss how to use AmpKit to record your guitar or bass performances, and how to use the great re-amp feature of the app to modify the dry guitar signal with new amp and gear settings. Once you're done, export the wet or dry guitar signals via email or Wi-Fi. You'll also hear a few more samples of the tones available through the app and we'll wrap things up with pros and cons. @smashbrosbrawler3 There are some sample dry tracks included and you can upload your own if you just want to play with trying out different gear processing the dry signal. If you want to pay guitar live through your setup, however, you need to have a guitar/iPhone interface. The AmpKit LiNK is the best I’ve found in terms of balancing cost and sound quality, but the AmpKit software will technically also work with the iRig.
can u upload the music onto ur itunes or computer?
is the upload free?
@AngryLlamaz Yes, you can export recordings from AmpKit by sending them via email, uploading to SoundCloud or transferring them via Wi-Fi.
@DaGn0528 All the export options are free, including SoundCloud, which just requires you to register for a free account.
can ampkit do multitrack recording? or is it only one track at a time seperately?
@chernobyl1994 It’s just single-track recording at the moment. Not sure if they have plans to upgrade that at some point, although it would be nice. The ability to export either the dry or wet signal is great though.
So you recomment this instead of iRIG? Im think im gettings, this all sounds pretty awesome too me.
Let me ask something that I didn’t understand…if I use
*if I use this application and this link can I play directly from the guitar to the IPhone??I mean is the music I will play able to hear from the iPhone speakers?
@DionisisK0 Not from the iPhone’s internal speaker, but from a set of headphones. The audio output is also handled by the AmpKit LiNK, so you need to plug headphones into the LiNK to hear the processed guitar sound.
Oh man this looks like so much fun! Thanks for the great review!
@KagakuGakusei Awesome. Glad you liked it!
I have a Line 6 Spider IV 15 amp. It has a port for headphones and iPod/MP3. I have a “male to male” 3.5mm jack (the same kind my iPhone uses)
Does the amp you are using need to be exactly the one selected on the iPhone? Because I don’t know if this app with have my amp.
So do I plug my guitar into the white box, my 3.5mm jack into the white box and the amp?
Thanks for your help!
this sounds very good. what kind of power speaker did you use? I’m thinking of getting the paid app, link, and high quality speaker for it.
@zabimaru1000 I actually had it plugged into a 250 W Fender Passport PA system. I think it would sound good through any decent full-range speaker though.
What cable do you use to connect the LinK with your cabinet? Also, where would I be able to buy the cable? I really dislike using my headphones for the app.
hello.. just wondering, I finally got the link, and I am trying to make a recording with some backing tracks… It records my guitar but not the backing track??? is it suppose to be like this? I would have thought that it would record backing track and what ever you put on with it???
so the link definitely pwns the irig??also have u ever used a 1/8th adapter to 1/4th adapter and just pluged it straight into your amp??or does it fuck up the sound quality alot?? just curious cause it could be useful if i end up going to my friends house where he has 2 amps but only one processor and i forget to bring mine..then still be able to get a similar sound..cause as weird as it sounds i think id take it with me everywhere lol
Is there a way for you to plug it in to a computer?
Is there a way for you to plug it in to a computer?
@laidlaw3 In theory this should get you some sort of signal to computer’s line in jack, and this has been confirmed by my contact at Agile Partners. They’ve had users report to them that it works well, but they haven’t tested it themselves. They suggested that how well it works will probably vary from device to device, but at a basic level it should get a signal through. If you try it and make a recording, let Agile know. They’d love to hear the results.
@ENDVash I definitely prefer the LiNK to the iRig. The sound quality is very different between the two. I still haven’t tried it straight into an amp. You could do it, but you have to keep in mind that you can’t turn off the amp simulator in AmpKit, so you’re going to get color from both the amp simulator and the real amp. You could probably get a decent sound if you play with the settings a while though.
Can you load an ‘mp3 jam track’ to play along with ?
@dj0431 Yes, you can use the upload/download feature to import any track you want to use as a backing track.
