Acoustic or Electric for a Beginner?
I want to learn how to play the guitar but which one should I start off with-- Acoustic or Electric?? I think in the end I want to play the electric guitar ( I'm in to heavy metal ) but everyone says it's better to start off with the acoustic and most good guitarists did but if you have any experience in this field what would you suggest for a newbie??
P.S. is it smart to buy a guitar online with out really trying it out like webs like musiciansfriend.com ???

Stories saying that starting with acoustic is better are just fables and not based on truth or anything that really backs it up. Electric guitars are more easy to play than acoustic. The reason for this is that the strings are thinner and they are closer to the fretboard of the guitar. Mostly they say to start on acoustic to avoid players of using the whammy bar and/or amp effects etc too soon. But if you just keep a clean sound while playing, the electric is better to start with than an acoustic because it’s easier to hold down the strings.
It’s VERY important to start playing on a guitar that is easy to play. If you start with a guitar that’s too hard to play, you will learn slower, you might lose interest, and the chance is greater that you will use the wrong fingering. The drawback is, that electrics are more expensive than acoustics. The more a guitar costs, the easier it is to play (probably). So an acoustic of $200 will feel better than one that costs $100 and an electric that costs $500 will feel better than one that costs $200. If you want a good electric guitar that’s easy to play, you’ll need to spend $300+.
When you’re beginning there are two sides. If you’re sure you want to keep playing guitar, get a good one immediately. If you don’t really know if it’s your thing but want to try it out, get a cheaper acoustic one, to see if it keeps your interest. And there’s no problem buying guitars online, but make sure you know what you’re buying.. If you need any help, feel free to contact me.
acoustic. If you can play acoustic then you can play electric. Seriously though start with acoustic
start off w/ acoustic
I think acoustic is better. You should get used to the guitar first. I bought an electric for my first guitar, it didn’t work out so well…
I play Acousitc, and i soon will be buying an electric.
I find it easy to play acoustic, btu i’ve heard electric is easier to paly then acousitc, but i’m not really sure.
Yes, i do think most good guitarists start on acousitc and later on go onto electric.
Oh jeez, please go with acoustic, please. Worry about the bells and whistles later, acoustic is the way to go, just guitar in it’s purest form.
acoustic
it will take time for you to know which guitar is the right one for you, like gibson or fender, so just get good acoustic for now
I think you should get a acoustic and see if you like the feel of it and then step up to a electric unless you want to stay with the acoustic.
ive been playing guitar for about 2 years now, for the first six or so months i played the acoustic and then i wanted an electric and now i love playing guitar.
IT IS ABSOLUTLY NOT SMART TO TO BUY A GUITAR OFFLINE IT COULD BREAK DURING SHIPPING AND IT WILL COST YOU MORE TO FIXX IT THAN WHAT IT COST YOU TO BUY IT.
start out electric. i agree with acoustic most acoustic claims, but acoustic guitar is a lot more strenuous on your fingers. plus if you’re in to metal i would just start and stay electric. musiciansfriend is a great website, and i would recommend a starter pack that includes a guitar, amp, picks, a cord, and a strap.
I started with a gibson 150 acoustic, then when my teacher said I was ready, my dad bought me a brand new gibson es-335 in 1970, I still have and it might be for sale but not cheap
