Acoustic Electric Guitar Upgrades

What is a good brand of electric guitar for a beginner?
So I played an acoustic guitar for 6 months, and I think I'm ready to move to an electric one. The thing is I do not know much about different brands, and what are the different qualities / advantages and disadvantages of them. I am interested mainly on guitar couch, where I sit on the couch and play my own amusement. For this reason, I'm not a big fan of Fender stratacasters, just because body shape, it is difficult to play on my knees (his curve slides down my leg). But I do not really know if there is a difference between, say, a Gibson SG, a telecaster, ultra, basic, standard, either. From what I know now, the only differences really are cosmetic, the sound quality and the guy does not come rather than the stage. Thus the gurus of the guitar, what you suggest for a beginner like me? I'd rather not spend more than $ 300, simply because I am financially ready to make a greater investment. What do you think?
There are many differences outside of the body shapes. On the one hand, and Strats Teles 25.5 "scale (From the bridge of nut), and Les Paul, SG, etc, have 24.75. Only 3 / 4 inches, but can make much difference in how you stretch your hand feels freting. Moreover, the State has wings single coil pickups (PU), which sounds very different from the humbucking pickups found in most Gibson. In addition, many have defenses solid maple neck. Some have a rosewood neck (like most Gibson - Ebony top models use sometimes) and many Gibson models use a link to that dishes with the edge of the neck. That and the fact that the box scores are generally higher Fender Gibson that "points" can make a difference. The shape of the neck while gliding in the hand (wide, thick and thin) can make or break a guitar. In addition radio manga (curve of the neck) may be different. Despite Gibson are generally quite flat, some of the Ailes reprint of a 7.5 "radius. Most Gibson has a pick-up configuration with two, giving you the option PU PU neck two together and bridge. Strats have three microphones are giving five different tones, with switch, neck PU, neck / middle, middle, Middle Bridge / y the bridge. Teles have substantially the same as a Les Paul or SG, but with thinner single coil probe microphones. It is true that you should find that you're happy, but knowing that these things early can help. If not totally confused hope that helps a little. I wish I had someone explain to me when I started.
